Edge capability matrix
The Edge column shows what the Edge software does today. Every Edge feature still needs qualification on physical hardware before a Tilecast release supports it on production screens.
- Implemented The Edge software does it, and automated tests cover it.
- Hardware dependent The software is implemented, but whether it works depends on the connected display, adapter, or audio device. It isn’t tested on real hardware yet.
- Not available Edge doesn’t do it today.
| Capability | Stable Linux Player | Edge |
|---|---|---|
| Images and downloaded video | Supported | Implemented Codecs and hardware decoding still need hardware testing |
| Native Widgets, Layouts, and playlist zones | Supported | Implemented |
| Schedules, Quick Present, and Takeover | Supported | Implemented |

When a newer presentation needs something Edge can’t show, such as a Website, Edge keeps playing the last presentation it could show and tells Studio why. See content compatibility.
tilecastctl capabilities on the Edge computer lists each hardware feature with its current state and a reason, such as a missing adapter or a display that doesn’t respond. The engineering capability matrix has the full list of states, reasons, and tests.
The normal Tilecast guides apply to shared tasks such as Activity, Live preview, Player commands, Display Control, Schedules, and Display Groups.
